How Convenience Stores Can Grow Food and Beverage Programs in Today’s Environment

Even though a third of consumers report they are visiting convenience stores less because of Covid-19, more than half report visits have remained the same.

There is a positive aspect; even though in-store traffic is down, customers are spending more per trip. Whether inside the store or not, consumers continue to demand a safe, fresh, even contact-free retail experiences. Several trends are driving this performance:

  • Convenience stores are the #1 consumer choice for snacking and grazing,
  • Consumers desire more contactless and touchless,
  • Consumers are even more focused on safety and sanitation,
  • And increased demand for delivery, mobile ordering, and curbside pick-up.

In a recent survey conducted by Foodservice IP in late 2020, consumers were asked where they typically go when they are hungry, and convenience stores were the number one choice. While fewer convenience store retailers expect their in-store traffic to increase in 2021, there is an opportunity to make the most of each visit.
